| Eaglepalooza |
Visit Walnut Circle Grill during Eaglepalooza!
Grammy Award winning R & B recording artist and actress, Mya, will
headline Eaglepalooza in downtown Hattiesburg tonight, along with Sister
Hazel. "Mya will be the first female solo artist to grace the
Eaglepalooza stage and also the first nationally known R&B singer,"
Ethan Bratton said about the artist who will headline USM's third annual
concert held on Main Street in downtown Hattiesburg. Bratton is the
Student Government Association's Director for Eaglepalooza this year.
Sister Hazel has played over 15,000 live shows and sold over two million albums with six top 30 singles, including what many may know them for, "All For You" since the mid-90s. Fans have flocked to special fan-centric events the band helped to create such as the Rock Boat, which was the first of its kind and The Rock Slope. Sister Hazel has just released a new album, "Absolutely". This year's schedule includes Vasti Jackson at 6, Mya at 8, a pep rally for the November 18 Southern Miss v. UAB football game at 9, and Sister Hazel at 10. Eaglepalooza is a downtown music festival that was designed to welcome students from The University of Southern Mississippi into Hattiesburg's downtown area. Eaglepalooza began in 2004 and has become an annual event. Sponsored by the university's Student Government Association, Eaglepalooza traditionally draws crowds of up to 8,000 students who are treated to a free concert by nationally known acts. |

| Maggie Brown |
You don't want to miss Maggie Brown!
Performing is a way of life for Maggie Brown. She started playing piano
at 3 years old and at 12, got her first guitar. She had formed her own
band by the time she was 14.
The year she turned 18 on Lake St. John in Northern Louisiana, her mother saw a sign in the sky from God and decided it meant that they were to head for California. Along the way, they stopped in Texas and that's where they stayed for the next four years, where Maggie played in roadside bars and honky tonks. She toured with Trace Adkins in 1988 and recently has opened for Delbert McClinton and Gretchen Wilson. Her next stop was Nashville, but when her mother died two weeks after they arrived, Maggie went home to Louisiana to pursue a normal life. Today, she is a confident woman and is once again following her love of music. When she sings the high notes, the sound has a tough sheen like hand-rubbed brass. "When she sings softly, there's so much painful truth in that velvety burr it raises the hairs on the back of your neck." |
