WCG welcomes Davis Coen to the Courtyard Friday night! |
Blues circuit guitarist/singer
Davis Coen`s most recent accomplishments have included
original music on the DVD release of Martin Scorsese`s PBS
special 'The Blues'; backup work on the last release by
Jesse Mae Hemphill, entitled 'Dare You To Do It Again'; and
often three times daily airtime on XM Satellite Radio
through spring/summer '06; achieving a No. 1 position for
the week of July 8th. In addition DC's music gets sporatic
airplay on Sirius satellite radio as well as numerous other
blues programs in the U.S. and around the globe. Coen has
been touring the U.S. since his teens, mostly as a solo
acoustic guitar and vocal act, but from time to time
accompanied by bass and drums performing as an electric
trio. Davis commonly plays at clubs, bars, theaters, and
festivals throughout the Southeast, being based out of
Charleston, South Carolina. He has also enjoyed a dozen
tours of Europe, promoting his 3 album releases, Cryin` the
Blues 95, Blues From the Get-go 99, and Can`t Get There From
Here (Jan. 24th 06). He has shared a bill or opened for many
classic blues artists such as James Cotton, Junior Wells,
Koko Taylor, Big Jack Johnson, North Mississippi All-Stars,
David "Honeyboy" Edwards, Eddie Kirkland, and Britain`s John
Mayall & The Bluesbreakers. This past March Davis played at
a clean-up kickoff in Biloxi, Mississippi for a Katrina
relief effort, performing before the Mayor and the City of
Biloxi.

Don't miss EAGLEPALOOZA Friday night in downtown

Eaglepalooza
is a downtown music fest that was designed to welcome students
from the University of Southern Mississippi into Hattiesburg's
downtown area. Eaglepalooza began in 2004 and has become an
annual event.
Sponsored by the university's Student Government Association
and Brownstone's Bourbon Street Bistro, Eaglepalooza
traditionally draws crowds of up to 10,000 students who are
treated to a free concert by nationally known acts
The downtown festival has brought the likes of Sister Hazel &
Mya' in 2006 and a crowd of around 10,000 students braved the
cool temperatures to enjoy the outdoor concert in 2005.
Dashboard Confessional headlined the show, followed by Pat
Green and Hey Revolution!
This year's lineup includes Robert Randolph and the Family
Band and Eve.

Big Juv sings the blues Saturday
night! |
Big
Juv is led by Jackson blues man Virgil Brawley who is
accompanied by fellow blues star Byrd Lovell.
Virgil Brawley represented
Mississippi in the International Blues Competition in Memphis
TN. He has won the Mississippi single/duo Blues Competition
held in Vicksburg.
The duo performs regularly at some of
Jackson's hottest night spots, including Archestratus Grill,
Fenian's Pub, the Mardi Gras Jazz Bar and the Alumni House.
These seasoned performers know how to deliver the blues,
Mississippi style!
They released their 3rd CD, 'Mojo
