| Maggie Brown |
Brown's sultry voice similar to Bonnie Raitt
Performing is a way of life for Maggie Brown. She started playing piano
at 3 years old and at 12, got her first guitar. She had formed her own
band by the time she was 14. The year she turned 18 on Lake St. John in
Northern Louisiana, her mother saw a sign in the sky from God and
decided it meant that they were to head for California. Along the way,
they stopped in Texas and that's where they stayed for the next four
years, where Maggie played in roadside bars and honky tonks. She toured
with Trace Adkins in 1988 and recently has opened for Delbert McClinton
and Gretchen Wilson.
Her next stop was Nashville, but when her mother died two weeks after they arrived, Maggie went home to Louisiana to pursue a normal life. Today, she is a confident woman and is once again following her love of music. When she sings the high notes, the sound has a tough sheen like hand-rubbed brass. "When she sings softly, there's so much painful truth in that velvety burr it raises the hairs on the back of your neck." I'll let her tell you the rest of the story in song. She performs Friday night in the Courtyard at 8 p.m. This is a performance you don't want to miss. |

Mature sounds from a seasoned performer
Jay Stevens is a Hattiesburg native...a USM graduate and a very talented
musician! His brand of acoustic blues, combined with a little folk and a
hearty dose of Southern rock makes for some great entertainment.
Relaxed and easy to listen to, he delivers a mature sound that is built on strong vocals and equally strong talent on the guitar. He throws in a little harp just for good measure. His influences include Neil Young, Chris Isaac, Bruce Springsteen and Keith Whitley, to name a few! Jay is an accomplished songwriter and he's even got a cool song titled 'In the Pinebelt'! Visit his myspace site linked below to check it out! Come out and check him out Saturday night in the Courtyard at Walnut Circle Grill, where 'No cover, Live Entertainment' is our just dessert! |
