Greetings!
Luminaries
and white lights will illuminate the 2007 edition of
Holiday Art Walk in
Historic Downtown on Saturday, showcasing special exhibits and
decorations, Christmas merchandise, refreshments, live
entertainment, neighborhood activities and more.
North Main's Magical Christmas will kick
off the weekend with decorations, luminaries and a home tour.
Victorian Candlelit Christmas in the adjacent Hattiesburg
Historic Neighborhood District will add to the spectacle with
two days of candle lighting, home tours and carriage rides.
The Meistersingers will present its annual Christmas
production in the Saenger. Hattiesburg Arts Council will open
its Emerging Artists Show and Hattiesburg Area Historical
Society will present the Southern Strings Dulcimer Club in
concert, both events at the Cultural Center.
South Mississippi Art Association will hold its 31st
Annual Show and Clothesline Sale on Walnut Street.
Downtown streets and some streets in
Hattiesburg Historic Neighborhood will be blocked to through
traffic. The City of Hattiesburg trolleys will convey visitors
around downtown and to candle lighting, running from 4 - 9 p.m.
starting from the Hattiesburg Cultural Center, 723 Main St. and
making stops at intersections downtown and in the adjacent
historic district. Park once, then ride and/or walk - weather
permitting -- for an easy and enjoyable experience.

Ben Payton - Friday night! |

Ben Payton
was born in Coila, Mississippi. His early musical influences
included his grandmother Mabel Johnson's gospel piano
playing and his Uncle Joe Birch's blues guitar. In his
mid-teens they moved to Chicago, where Ben soon became
active in the city's blues scene and backed many prominent
artists also working as the house band at local clubs. Ben
also played in the R&B bands The Oops and Womb From the
Tomb. In the summer of 2006 Ben performed at the Chicago
Blues Festival. He performs regularly in Jackson, Oxford,
Greenwood, and Clarksdale, both solo and as a duet with
percussionist Cyndi Clark.

Big Juv - Saturday night! |

Big Juv is
led by Jackson blues man Virgil Brawley who is accompanied
by fellow blues star Byrd Lovell. Virgil Brawley represented
Mississippi in the International Blues Competition in
MemphisTN. He has won the Mississippi single/duo Blues
Competition held in Vicksburg. The duo
performs regularly at some of
Jackson's hottest night spots, including Archestratus Grill,
Fenian's Pub, the Mardi Gras Jazz Bar and the Alumni House.
These seasoned performers know how to deliver the blues,
Mississippi style! The Juvenators released their 3rd cd 'Mojo
Burning' in May. All of their cds can be heard on their
website
