Jay Stevens is a Hattiesburg native...a USM graduate and a very talented
musician! His brand of acoustic blues, combined with a little folk and a
hearty dose of Southern rock makes for some great entertainment. Relaxed
and easy to listen to, he delivers a mature sound that is built on
strong vocals and equally strong talent on the guitar. He throws in a
little harp just for good measure.

Although almost unknown outside her native Texas, Brown has been touring
for years with bar bands and comes to her debut album as a mature and
complete country rocker with a voice that knows something about hurt.
Brown's gritty voice can growl and screech one minute and caress and cajole the next. Backed by dobro, electric guitar, harmonica and bashing drums, she lights up barroom blues rockers such as "I Like It" and "Wasted" and then pulls out an acoustic weeper such as the beautiful "Full Moon Over Dallas. Brown is just as adept at the sentimental ballads, with "Jacob's Eyes" about taking a more childlike view of the world, and "Hush," a sweet, violin-backed lullaby, and "Looking Back." But, she's best when she's rocking, and her "Used Cars" could put her over the top, a Raitt-like electric blues with some of the finest vocals on the set. Her "Shame" is a dark, sad groan of a song laid over pedal steel, and "Mosquito Net" grinds away with a swampy fury. |
