Dear Connie,
Where does the term 'Dog Days of Summer' come from? The brightest of
the stars in Canis Major, the big dog, is Sirius, which also happens
to be the brightest star in the night sky. In the summer, Sirius
rises and sets with the sun. The ancients believed that its heat
added to the heat of the sun and named this 40 day period of time
between early July and early September “dog days” after the dog
star.
Now that you know that this heat has been around for a long time, you

the blues'. The Big Juv Trio is made up of Virgil Brawley, lead guitar
and vocals, Byrd Lovell, slide guitar, and Lloyd Munn on harmonica.
Virgil Brawley has represented Mississippi in the International Blues
Competition in Memphis TN. He won the Mississippi single/duo Blues
Competition held in Vicksburg Ms in 2004.
